Auroralites dog safety collar

A friend recently pointed out a cool gadget to me that deserves a brief mention on this blog. It is a dog safety collar from Auroralites that uses electroluminescent ("EL") technology to provide a long-lived and bright safety light for your night-time walkies. The product is already being used by police, search & rescue, FBI, and other security K-9 teams, and is now also available for civilian use. The collar is shock proof, water resistant and soft, so they won't break teeth. They produce no heat and are non-toxic. The collar comes in a regular steady-light version and a flashing version with 1s on and 1s off - especially for security applications where you don't want your dog to become a target for enemies. Since Marblehead is a rather peaceful town and I have no intentions to use our family dog in situations where "becoming a target" is even remotely relevant, I opted for the regular non-flashing version of the collar when I placed my order today....

UPDATE: Please do not order this product. My order never arrived, and other customers apparently had the same problem. The company and its website seems to now be defunct. See the comments thread on this blog post for more details!

I must agree that the Auroralite collar is a must have but I have to ask you to let me know IF you ever get it. I put an order on December 7th, 2008 and have not received mine yet. I've tried emailing twice with no response and tried calling twice and get pushed to a voice mail box which is full. I was in the process of trying to surf my way to answers to questions such as, did the company go out of business, is this just an Internet scam? I believe the company was legitimate at one time but since I haven't received my order in almost 3 months, I kind of doubt that it's still alive and kickin'. I hope you receive your collar because that should mean that I received mine as well but at this point, I think hope is about all either of us has.

Same problem here. A friend has one, and she recommended them to me, but I have placed my order and never received it. Sorry!

Any updates? Any luck? Really interested in picking up one of these, and maybe one of those harnesses.. but the lack of response is pretty scary.

Sorry, no updates. No shipment arrived and no response to any of my inquiries.
At this point I can only recommend to NOT purchase this collar based on my experience. Sorry! It really looked good on their web site... :(

Same for me. I tried following up for the collar and nothing yet and the voicemail is full. I ordered mine about 2 months ago after corresponding directly with the president of the company via email. The money came out of my credit card immediately after the order. So I don't know if I should report that to the credit card yet or just wait.

I have had the same problem. Over the weekend I did a google and on yelp.com there were a few people complaining of the same problem. Now today when I try to go to the website, it will not come up. So the website and everything is gone. I have his email address still - but I have sent several emails with no response.

I'm in the same place. Placed an order on 11/5/08 and gotten nothing.

I see that the web site is back up and functioning again, so buyer beware!

Their web site is up (10-14-09), however, we had a Church donate our K9 SAR team these collars and it took 8 months and we were still waiting. They finally canceled the order after a long ordeal trying to reach a real person. Ordered instead from: http://www.searchgear.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=136 and they came quickly, albeit it significantly more expensive. I have had one collar from them since 2000 and it works as well today as it did when I received it and it has been through snow, water, heat, etc. We utilize them with night training and SAR missions and they are exceptional. If you can get your hands on one you will not be disappointed and they will late a very, very long time. Best of luck.

As of 12/08/09 Auroralites was taking orders and collecting credit card payments through a company called Camden Towne Fine Leather in Toronto. As of 01/28/10 they have yet to fill the order placed on 12/08 and will not answer e-mail asking for an estimated shipping date. My advice: DO NOT PLACE AN ORDER with Auroralites.

Try this site fireflyk9.com it's a better product and ships within a day.

I too experienced the same issues as described by theses posts and felt the same way that this was a fraud. I canceled my payment with my creditor and sent an email to auroralites. I received an immediate response explaining the situation and the order has been shipped. I still had doubts and waited. The collars did arrive that week, work as advertised and are a super product. it took about 6 weeks from order date. The owner Dave explained several reasons for delays, most common is getting parts through customs. Also he has had other business complications with Canadian authorities. My advise to Dave was to have better communication with people who made orders and thus prevent the bad business rap.
In summary, He seems legit, I did eventually receive my collars, they work great and they are the best I have seen.
Good luck

Very interesting new development. The collar that I ordered in February 2009 arrived this week. It is a really cool product, but order fulfillment after 15 months has to be a record for an online transaction. Dave, the owner of the company, very nicely apologize in a letter that accompanied the shipment and explained that he had customs issues and tax issues with the Canadian authorities who didn't believe that most of his sales were exports.
While I greatly sympathize and hope he can get his business back on track, not communicating with customers for 15 months and then shipping the product unexpectedly after such a long time is certainly a strange business practice...

Well, its been 18 months and no collar and no communications.

I'm glad you got something for your trouble.

I've been telling people about the www.fireflyk9.com collar and I like it a bunch. If I had a Auroralites one to compare it to.

If I ever get a collar from Dave I will let you all know.

I am so sorry to see all of these comments. I have purchased 5 collars over the last 9 years and love them better than anything else I've found.

Although it took 8 weeks to receive each order, I had good communication with Dave and wish I knew what happened.

Ann,

Glad to hear that someone got a collar, but Auroralites is still a theif in my book. Now going on 3 years and no collar / No refund

I got the other collar from fireflyk9.com in a matter of days and it still works very well

If I ever get a collar or a refund then I MIGHT change my story, but don't buy a collar from Auroralites
